Our Heritage
Left: James R Hill who established the funeral directing company in 1965.
James R. Hill Funeral Directors was established by James R. Hill in 1965 to provide a service for people in the Fairfield area. Known as Jim, he worked for his father as a polisher and cabinet maker and then worked for E.G. Scrimshaw Funeral Directors.
He was a gold medal winner at the Commonwealth Games in Perth for rowing and, on his return to Hamilton, decided he wanted to set up a funeral directing business in Fairfield. Jim retired in 1989 and sold the business to Graham Hallam, who continues to manage the business today.
